2nd Grain Fire In Less Than A Week Causes Over $210k In Losses

It’s the 2nd Grain
Fire in the area to be reported in less than a week. This one started early Friday morning, November 15th.
FDL County Sheriff’s Communication Center received the call at approx 4:40am Friday morning of a grain dryer that was on fire at the Double S Dairy on Marshview Rd
in the Township of Alto. An employee noticed the fire and called it in. The
owners of the Dairy said there is a wireless sensor in the grain dryer that
sensed an overheat at about 11:30pm Thursday night. The fire is believed to have
started at about 4a inside the grain dryer, which was in the process of drying
1500 bushels of corn worth about $60,000. The corn and the dryer are both a complete
loss, with the dryer valued at $150,000. No one was injured in the blaze.
