78 Sturgeon Harvested Saturday

Saturday was the halfway point of 2020 Sturgeon Season, and it was a great day to be on the ice. Unless, of course, you were one of the 78 sturgeon.

Saturday saw 40 sturgeon registered on Lake Winnebago and 38 Upriver. With a total of 453 sturgeon, Ryan Koenigs is fairly certain it will be a full 16-day run on both systems. 14 fish were registered at Jim and Linda’s, Payne’s Point had 7 and Wendt’s had 6.

The largest haul of the day out of Lake Winnebago was registered at Jerry’s Bar in Oshkosh by Brian Koplitz, tipping the scales at 116.6 pounds and 77 inches. Fuller Braun speared the largest Upriver, at 77.9 pounds, 64 inches.

The Meier group recorded a double dip Saturday, with David Meier, Sr. and Renee Reszel both registering sturgeon, getting them on the board with David Meier Jr. who tagged one Friday.  This was Renee’s first fish of her career.

Forecast on Sunday calls for a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 30, so looks like another great day of spearing. Again, be safe. Be smart. And good luck.
