AirVenture Is Here

If you can’t tell from the frequent sounds of airplanes overhead, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017 is here. Dick Knapinski of EAA says each year the week long event brings in over 500,000 visitors from 70 nations and about 10,000 aircraft. They will kick things off with a free concert after the afternoon air show today. Knapinski says for years they have been trying to get the band Barenaked Ladies and this year they got them. He says Ed Robertson of the band is a pilot himself and has always wanted to come to Oshkosh. They will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of NASA’s Apollo program with a reunion of those astronauts later this week. He says all of those astronauts are in their eighties now and this may be the last big public program they will do together. That program will be Friday in the Theater on the Woods. Also during the 65th Annual AirVenture the Blue Angels will be doing shows, there’s the ever-popular warbirds including two B29 bombers, and there will be plenty of activities for the kids as well. A complete schedule is available at the EAA website. (AirVenture photo)
