Amtrak Thruway Bus Service Offers Stop in FDL

People in Fond du Lac and all along the Interstate 41 corridor
have been able to use a new transportation option to connect to Milwaukee and
Chicago over the last few months. Amtrak, the nation’s passenger rail service,
launched its Thruway Bus Service between Green Bay and Milwaukee in July. The
buses make two daily round-trips between the two cities, with stops in Fond du
Lac, Oshkosh, Appleton and De Pere. Travelers are then able to use Amtrak’s
Hiawatha train service to connect from Milwaukee to Chicago. Envision Greater
Fond du Lac President and CEO Cecilia Harry says the bus service is another way
to keep the region connected. “It’s really important for those of us in this
part of Wisconsin to be able to access other markets for business or recreation,”
Harry said. “But there’s actually great potential for those of us that are
located here for business or recreation purposes, to hopefully attract more
folks from the greater Chicago area to come and visit this part of the state.”

The bus service was launched to address a gap in service on
I-41 that happened because Greyhound cancelled their bus service last October. Buses
stop in Fond du Lac at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center on Rolling
Meadows Drive. See the full bus schedule here.
