Arson Awareness Week

Local fire departments are taking part in Arson Awareness Week. The national effort pushes to prevent arson – and keep the eyes of the public peeled for suspicious activity. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase tells us not every building fire is considered arson. Haase says there is a difference, because “sometimes it’s kids that are just messing around and they don’t mean to start it. But it becomes an arson fire if they intentionally do it.”

Haase says there are many reasons people commit arson – and that the most common targets are vacant or abandoned buildings.
