Author Of Struck By Genius Giving Talks In FDL Today

The author of a book about being an acquired savant, which is the subject of the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Fond du Lac Reads program, will be in Fond du Lac for two talks today. Library Community Information Coordinator Terri Fleming says Jason Padgett was an average guy in 2002 when he was savagely attacked outside a bar and suffered head trauma. While recovering Padgett began seeing images before his eyes and a friend suggested drawing them. Dr. Darold Treffert of the Treffert Center in Fond du Lac says just by chance Jason learned in a coffee shop one day what he was drawing were fractals. A physics professor explained what they were and Jason know lectures around the world on mathematics. Padgett visited Treffert in Fond du Lac in 2015 to learn more about savant syndrome. Today he will give talks on his book “Struck by Genius: How a Brain Injury Made Me a Mathematical Marvel.” The first is at 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Hospital and the second at 6 p.m. at the library. The talk at the library will be streamed.
