Back To School FDL Registration Starts Soon

Back to School FDL, a one-day annual shopping opportunity for students needing help getting school supplies will be held this year on Saturday August 23rd and once again at the Fond du Lac Boys and Girls Club site on W. Second Street.

            The August 23rd event, organized through a collaboration of agencies, businesses, churches, and community members, is dedicated to ensuring that all students in need who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a Fond du Lac County school go to school with all needed school supplies.

            Families interested in applying for assistance must register in advance starting June 10 through August 8.  To qualify, an appointment needs to be made to complete paperwork at one of the following agencies:

            Big Brothers Big Sisters, 448 S. Military Road, 922-8200

            Boys & Girls Club, 76 W. 2nd Street, 924-0530

            Family Resource Center, 104 S. Main Street, 923-4110

            The Salvation Army, 237 Macy Street, 923-8220

            Solutions Center, 39 N. Sophia Street, 923-1743

Phone ahead for an appointment and bring the following items to assist in the application process:  Proof of residence in the form of a current utility bill, rent receipt, government or W-2 document, or driver’s license/ID and proof of household income in the form of current pay stub(s), bank statements, free or reduced lunch paperwork.

            Families that qualify will be assigned a specific time on August 23 for children to “shop” with a volunteer for school supplies.

            Donations to support the free distribution can be mailed to Back to School FDL, c/o Loaves and Fishes, P. O. Box 644, Fond du Lac, WI  54936-0644.  Checks should be made out to Loaves & Fishes designating Back to School FDL on the memo line.  Since finances of the program are managed through Loaves & Fishes, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, all donors will receive a thank you note and a statement that their donation is tax deductible.
