Ballweg To Chair Midwest Legislative Conference

Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) will serve as the 2016 chair of the Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC), a nonpartisan association of state and provincial legislators that fosters regional cooperation, information sharing, and leadership development.

Rep. Ballweg will make early-childhood development and education policies the focus of her 2016 MLC chair’s initiative. She also will lead Wisconsin’s work in hosting the MLC Annual Meeting, which will be held July 17-20 in Milwaukee. This event typically attracts hundreds of state and provincial legislators from the Midwest.

“I’m honored to be selected to serve in this role,” said Rep. Ballweg. “The MLC is a valuable asset to all Midwestern legislators, and I look forward to welcoming our neighbors to Milwaukee for next year’s meeting.”

Rep. Ballweg formally assumed this leadership position on December 12 at the national Council of State Governments meeting. She was elected MLC chair in July by fellow state lawmakers from the Midwest.
