Life is Not Always Fair!

We often find out early on that life is not always fair.  It seems like some people are just plain lucky.  There are times when you try to do everything right and it still ends up wrong.  There are many things that are out of our control, but there are often many other things that we can control.

Attitude is an important element in the overall game of life.  If we have a negative attitude we sometimes are the beneficiary of a self fulfilling prophecy.  This is true in everything we do.  People that go fishing thinking that they probably won't catch anything often don't catch as much as the person with a positive attitude.  People that become professional athletes are most successful when they have the confidence to perform thinking that every play provides them a chance to help win the game.

Everyone faces failure and what some people call "bad luck" sometimes in their life. It is how we deal with the failure and bad luck that ultimately allows us to succeed. It is not always easy to keep a positive attitude when it feels like everything is crumbling around you.  There is a lot to that saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade".

We all have things that happen to us that changes the way we think and the way we feel.  When I was 32 years old, my father was in University Hospital in Madison being treated for cancer.  One of the times I was visiting I heard a very frequent crying and moaning coming from the room next door.  I asked my father what that was, and he told me that it was coming from an eight year old boy that was dealing with a brain tumor.  He had the maximum amount of morphine that they could give him and he was still crying out in pain all day and night.  He was facing his third brain surgery the next day.  After hearing the agony that the eight year old boy was going through, I made a promise to myself to never complain about what life gave me. I have never forgotten that day and it has affected my outlook on life ever since.  What some people think is unfair is nothing compared to what that boy was going through.

Life is not always fair, but we sometimes need to put things in perspective.  I, like many others, have had to deal with many things that did not go the way I had planned or hoped for.  We don't have to look very far to observe someone that is a whole lot worse off than we are.  Life is not always fair, but how we deal with life and keeping a positive attitude can and does win out in the end.  As you read this, I will be in Arkansas trout fishing on the White River.  The weather is suppose to be close to 70 degrees and I will be catching fish.  If you have to work, you may be thinking that this is not fair!
