Bond Set At $850,000 For Standoff/Arson Suspect

Bond was set at $850,000 cash this morning for the 40-year-old Fond du Lac man accused of setting fire to a home he used to own and getting into a standoff with police. Shannon Rogler is charged with attempted 1st degree intentional homicide, burglary, arson and failing to comply with officers for incidents that occurred on December 9th. During the hearing Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney asked for the high bond while Rogler's lawyer, Philip Atinsky, asked for a $25,000 cash bond. Atinsky argued Rogler had traumatic experiences including the death of his mother, father and grandmother within a couple of years and then lost his house. to foreclosure. Atinsky called it an "unfortunate breakdown." Toney argued that Rogler has 11 prior criminal convictions for less serious crimes, but warrants were issued eight times because he didn't make court appearances. Atinsky said most of those cases were more than 10 years ago. Toney also said Rogler has reported ties to White Power groups and other charges may be pending. Judge Gary Sharpe felt there should be significant bail and set a number of non-monetary conditions as well including no controlled substances, no possession of firearms or contact with people who have them, absolute sobriety and more. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, January 16th.
