Born Learning Trail Ribbon Cutting In FDL Today

The Fond du Lac Area United Way Born Learning Trail will be dedicated with a ribbon-cutting at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac today. The trail has 9 different signs with corresponding games for children and the adults that take them through the trail. Amber Kilawee says one for instance involves a game of hopscotch. Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac Executive Director Andrea Welsch says children need nurturing to develop a healthy mind. She says children need supporting environments to grow into the individuals that they have the potential to be. She says parents and caregivers have a critical role in that process. Dr. Matt Doll of the Treffert Center says with technology and so much of our attention drawn to these devices we need to take a pause with our children. He says even walking an infant around the park or through the trail will help develop their brains. He says the more words children hear, the more sing-songy voices, the more back and forth coos and babbles we do the better their brains and the better their language, which helps prepare them for success in school and in life. The public is welcome to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will be at Noon at the Lakeside Park playground area.
