Brown Bag Lunch Program In Its Twenty Fifth Year

The Fond du Lac Salvation Army is in its 25th year of the Brown Bag Lunch program. The program was started in 1993 and served 2,600 lunches that summer to kids and others who needed meals. Program coordinator Barb Thill says this year they anticipate serving about 13,000 lunches. She originally worked at Sentry Foods in Fond du Lac, but it was sold and that changed her role and began a new one with the Salvation Army. She says the owner sent her over to the Salvation Army Tuesday and Thursdays to help out with the lunch program and after she retired she decided to continue to volunteer at the Salvation Army. She says as the need for the program grew in the community so did the donations they received to fill those lunch bags. She says this year Eaton’s Fresh Pizza & Deli decided to supply meat, Faris Gourment Popcorn has been on board for a couple of years, A to Z Vending, Kwik Trip and Village Hearth Bread are just a few of their many contributors. In addition to the Salvation Army offices they have satellite distribution sites for the Brown Bag Lunch program at Maplewood Commons Apartments, the Church of Peace and Lakeside Gardens Apartments.
