Burn Permits Not Issued To Just Anyone

The division chief of fire prevention for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue says they do issue burn permits, but it isn’t something they do for everyone. Troy Haase says permits are issued for golf courses and other large properties that do controlled burns. He says one example is a burn for the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum at the UW-Fond du Lac. He says the fire department knows those working on the burn have experience and knowledge of what they are doing versus the average home owner. He says they won’t be issuing permits to someone that just wants to burn leaves and sticks in their yard. Haase says they also have to consider the risk of fire danger at the time they issue the permit. He says this time of year there is a higher potential for grass fires.
