CDC Says U.S. Measles Count has Surpassed 1,000 Cases

The Centers for Disease Control and prevention say this year’s measles epidemic in the United States has surpassed 1,000 illnesses. The CDC updated the total count Wednesday, saying now 1,001 cases have been reported since January 1st. The total is the highest in the country since 1992, when more than 2,200 were reported. Measles was considered to be eradicated in 2000, and the CDC says vaccination rates have remained very high, but outbreaks have been happening in communities where parents have refused the recommended shots for children. There still has not been a reported case of the measles in Wisconsin this year. Cases have been reported in Illinois, Iowa and Michigan and Indiana.
