Celebrate Community Saturday

Differences in culture and ethnicity will be celebrated during the 10th Annual Celebrate Community event at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Center Saturday. Tracy Abler is the president of the United for Diversity Board of Directors. She says the event grew out of the former Peace Fest. She says a family son was harassed by skin heads in the area, and rather than retaliate he reacted in a peaceful way and the community rallied around him. Celebrate Community is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include over 30 booths, entertainment, food and children’s activities. Abler says it begins with the Brothertown Nation’s Flag Ceremony. She says it is really powerful to see nearly 50 flags from different countries being walked onto the stage. Among the new entertainment will be the Dance Academy of Mexico and an African Drum and Dance Ensemble. The cost is $5 for adults with children 17 and younger admitted free.
