Censorship Brought Up At FDL School Board Meeting

A follow up article about censorship for the Cardinal Columns high school magazine generated more talk at the Fond du Lac School Board meeting Monday evening. A graphic to be included with the article featuring a student with a duct-taped mouth wasn’t going to be allowed. Speakers last night included David Wallner a retired adviser to the Stoughton High School newspaper, Sandy Jacoby of the Kettle Moraine Press Association, UW-Oshkosh journalism professor Vince Filak and Cardinal Columns’ art designer Austin Klewicki. Klewicki was asking that a policy that allows the principal to review material before it’s published be reconsidered before the current school year is over. He also said students were planning a sit in Thursday morning outside the principal’s office to protest the policy. The other three speakers also talked about censorship and the article on Rape Jokes that originally sparked the policy controversy.
