Check Your Credit

The Family Living Educator for the Fond du Lac County UW Extension Service says you should check your credit three times a year. Shelly Tidemann says they launched a Free Credit Report campaign earlier this month. She says they are asking people to check their credit on February 2nd, June 6th and October 10th of each year or 2-2, 6-6, and 10-10. She says your credit obviously can affect you in a number of ways. She says it can impact your ability to get a loan, securing credit, getting a job, a place to live, even on your car insurance. She says annualcreditreport.com uses the three major credit reporting sites Experian, TransUnion and Equifax for the free reports. She says you can get their website address at the Extension website or by calling them. She says there are lookalike websites that would try to take advantage of you so she advises contacting the Extension Office. You can also call 1-877-322-8228. She says by law you can check your credit for free three times a year.
