Checking On Parent Safety During The Holidays

The director of Fond du Lac’s Senior Center says the holidays are a good time to check on the welfare of your parents if they are getting older. Cathy Loomans points out some families are spread out across the country and the only time they see each other may be over the holidays. She says people can seem perfectly fine when they are talking on the phone with you, but the story might be different when you are face to face. She recommends taking stock of your parent’s home to make certain it is up to its usual standards. That should include taking a peek in the fridge to see how they are eating. Safety should also be considered. Throw rugs could be a tripping hazard and hand bars might be good for showers, bathtubs and stairs.
