City Of FDL Setting Up Health Savings Plan For Non Represented Employees

Fond du Lac City officials are considering creating a health savings plan for 84 non-represented employees. City Manager Joe Moore this week informed the City Council it would be a post-retirement benefit. He says it is for accrued benefits that were frozen in 2012 when the City went to an employee handbook as a result of ACT 10. He is asking the Council to approve amending this year’s budget to put $1.26 million into a fund for those employees. He says it will eliminate an existing liability and those employees will be able to draw from it for health costs when they are retired. He says $15,000 is being put into the plan for each of the 84 employees, but that will accumulate interest until an employee retires and begins drawing from it.
