“Click It Or Ticket” Enforcement to Begin Monday

Law enforcement agencies across Fond du Lac County and
the state of Wisconsin will be teaming up for the annual Click It or Ticket
enforcement campaign starting next week. The enforcement period runs Monday,
May 20th to Sunday, June 2nd and drivers will see
officers working for longer hours and in greater numbers to ensure compliance
with the state’s 10-year-old mandatory seat belt law. The law allows law
enforcement to stop and cite drivers solely for failing to buckle up. Drivers
can also be cited for every passenger that is not buckled up in their vehicle. Wisconsin
currently has a seat belt use rate of 89-percent, but the Department of
Transportation says about half of people killed in traffic crashes in Wisconsin
are not wearing their seatbelts.
