Comfort Inn Fire

Update:

It started out as a typical day for the house cleaning crew at the Comfort Inn in Fond du Lac this morning then they smelled and saw smoke. Tina Fugate of the house cleaning crew says the fire was on the first floor by the entrance of their pool area. She says there were up stairs checking rooms when they smelled the smoke and began seeing it and started pounding on doors evacuating guests. Fugate is an advanced EMT and entry-level firefighter with the Campbellsport Fire Department so she knew they had to get everyone out. She also knew they wouldn’t be able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. She says she saw cinders floating in the air, which she knew was serious. She says she and another co-worker began pulling fire alarms and telling everyone it wasn’t a drill. The fire did cause some damage to a back entryway and some adjacent rooms. Due to the size of the hotel a number of other fire departments were called for mutual aid. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from multiple departments are on the scene this morning of a fire at the Comfort Inn located at 77 Holiday Lane in Fond du Lac. Black smoke was seen coming from the building earlier this morning but it appears the fire is now under control.  Multiple fire departments were called to the scene as a precaution because of the size of the building.   Area law enforcement has blocked off some roads around the area while firefighters are on the scene.
