Creation Of Two New FDL TIDS Could Aid Redevelopment Projects

The creation of two new Tax Incremental Districts or TIDS in Fond du Lac will foster $10 million in investment in redevelopment. The City’s Plan Commission held public hearings this week for proposed project plans for TID 20 and TID 21. Community Redevelopment Director Dyann Benson says TID 20 would help a project by Commonwealth Management that will turn the former St. Mary’s School into 26 residential units. The first project in TID 21 is a conversion of the former Northern Casket Company on Brooke Street into 45 residential units. She says rather than tear it down they wanted to see if there was a way of using the property and another developer was interested. She says TID 21 will also include other properties in the area including the former Park Cheese building on Division and the Train Depot, which she feels have potential. Creation of the TIDS has a ways to go including approval by the City Council on November 9th.
