DATCP Warns of Storm-Chasing Scammers

The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is reminding residents to be wary of contractors offering help following this week’s damaging storms. Some door-to-door contractors target areas hit by natural disasters, where they promise a quick and affordable cleanup deal. But they are notorious for doing poor work for high prices or simply taking off with a check and doing no work at all. The scammers often disappear without a trace and leave no way for victims to contact them regarding unfinished work or damage done.
