Day 10 Sturgeon Season

DNR Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs writes:

There were a total of 8 lake sturgeon harvested today with 7 coming from Lake Winnebago and 1 from the Upriver Lakes. Although we only operated 2 registration stations today, we still tried to class fish into which station they would have been registered at had all stations been open. Three fish were registered on the east shore with 1 coming from Stockbridge Harbor and 2 from Calumet Harbor (Pipe). The remaining 4 fish were registered at Asylum Bay, but would have been registered at Payne’s Point had our full suite of stations remained open for today’s fishery. Today’s harvest included 1 fish >100 pounds and that was the lone fish at Stockbridge. Duane Haensgen’s fish measured 75.5″ and weighed 100.1 pounds.

Thus far we have had 551 fish harvested from Lake Winnebago and 294 from the Upriver Lakes. So this seasons harvest to date of 845 fish has already eclipsed last year’s system-wide harvest of 703 fish.
