Deer Hunting Licenses Dropping in Sales

A report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum shows the number of deer hunting licenses sold in Wisconsin dropped this year – raising concerns about funding for state conservation efforts.

The DNR shows the state sold about 824,500 deer licenses in 2017, which is more than 50,000 fewer licenses sold than back in 1999. They also say the decline in the number of hunters is strongly tied to the aging of the baby boomer generation.

Conservation groups say improving recruitment is just part of the solution – and push for an increase in fees and alternative revenue sources.
