Dehumidifier Starts Fire In Town Of Wayne Home

A malfunctioning dehumidifier started a fire in the basement of a home in Washington County’s Town of Wayne late Monday morning. Sheriff’s officials say a homeowner unplugged the portable dehumidifier after it started making strange noises and shortly afterwards it started on fire. The blaze caused about $15,000 in smoke damage to the residence in the 8500 block of Fairview Drive. Eight fire departments responded to the call.
