Department of Corrections Reports 2nd Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is reporting that a second employee has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The DOC said in a news release Monday that the second positive case was confirmed on Saturday (March 21st) – and is an employee at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage. The first positive case was confirmed March 18th, and is an employee at the Waupun Correctional Institution.

In the wake of the positive tests, each institution suspended administrative rules to limit movement “for the protection of our staff and the adults in our care.” Both employees were directed to quarantine in accordance with CDC guidelines. The release says that no one in the care of the department of corrections have tested positive, and that their health care professionals “are monitoring all individuals in our care closely.”

That’s nice that she’s answering questions for the public and all. I’m sure people appreciate the updates from the health department. However, another KFIZ article says that the 2 DOC employees who have tested positive have been moved to QUARANTINE. Yet, this article here says that quarantine is for those who do NOT have symptoms. Sounds like isolation and quarantine are basically the same thing, regardless of whether or not the person is known to have it. In fact, a lot of definitions for the word quarantine include the phrase “to isolate”. So why the semantics here?? It’s unreasonable to expect answers from officials in times like this. Often, they don’t know any better than us. We’re all confused and worried. But these news articles lately do have a lot of ambiguity to them, and a person could interpret that there is a lot of official “pretending to know” going on.
