DHS Issues Message to FoodShare Members about March Benefit Letters

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is alerting FoodShare
members to letters that will say they are not receiving any benefits in March.
The letters are automatically generated and represent the current scenario of
no federal funding for the program in March because of the federal government
shutdown. DHS officials say they continue to work with the USDA Food and
Nutrition Service to understand the impacts the shutdown may have on March
benefits. Because FoodShare benefits are 100 percent federally funded, the
benefits have not been guaranteed. DHS is working with the Food & Nutrition
Service and other federal and state agencies to explore options to fund
benefits in March, should federal funding not be available.
