DHS Receives Another Temporary SeniorCare Extension

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has received another
temporary extension for Wisconsin’s SeniorCare Waiver, which will allow the
program to continue until the end of March. This is the second extension DHS
has received in 2019 for the waiver, which expired at the end of 2018. The
60-day extension comes as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services finalizes
its review of DHS’ application for a 10-year extension that would keep the
program operating until December of 2028. The review process was delayed due to
the recent federal government shutdown. SeniorCare is an income-base
prescription drug assistance program for Wisconsin residents who are age 65 and
older. About 50,000 seniors in the state currently depend on SeniorCare to help
with the cost of prescription drugs.
