Discussions on Potential Turf Field, Indoor Facility for FDL School District Continue

After two flooding events at Fruth Field this calendar
year, support has been growing within the community for the Fond du Lac School District
to build a new artificial turf football field along with an indoor multi-use facility
at Fond du Lac High School. The Fond du Lac School Board continued discussions
on the idea at its meeting Monday night, and recently a group of board members
had a chance to tour similar facilities at other schools in the region – including
Kimberly, Kaukauna, Lomira and Kewaskum, among others.

District Superintendent Jim Sebert tells us that the
board has been discussing how the addition of a turf field and a multi-use
indoor facility could impact not only student athletes, but also the community
who often uses school space for different activities and events. “There’s a lot
to consider when you’re thinking about these things, and when you look at all
of these facilities that other districts have, and you see what we have, we’re
behind.” Sebert said. “I think we just have to answer the question – do we
think that this is important for us? And do we think that our kids and our
community deserve these types of things? And if so, then how do we work
together to make that happen?”

Sebert adds that the board is still in the “investigatory”
process on the issue, so no cost estimates for a potential new field and
practice facility have been determined.
