DNR Tests Confirm VHS Behind Fish Kill

The fish kill that caused hundreds of fish to wash up in Lakeside Park was a result of the VHS disease. The DNR says tests on hundreds of fish pulled from the park, along with Asylum Bay and High Cliff State Park, all tested negative for all pathogens but VHS. The disease did not affect big game fish and doesn’t affect humans. It’s a cold-water disease, which means it is active until the water warms up to the mid-fifties. The DNR says anglers can help stop the spread of VHS by cleaning and drying out their boats and gear before moving between bodies of water.
