DNR to Launch Invasive Species Effort Over 4th of July Weekend

The Fourth of July is Wisconsin’s busiest holiday for
boating, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be launching
its annual Clean Boats, Clean Waters “Landing Blitz” during the holiday, which works
to help protect against aquatic invasive species in the state. DNR staff and
volunteers will be at boat launches around the state between July 3rd
and July 7th to demonstrate prevention steps against the invasive
species. Invasive plants and animals can spread easily by hitching a ride on
boats and trailers and by hiding in live wells and on motors. The DNR says its important for boaters to inspect your boat, trailer and equipment for attached aquatic plants or animals and to remove them if and when you find them. Last year, almost
9,000 boats were inspected across the state as part of the education effort.
