Drinking And Cold Weather Can Have Fatal Consequences

Drinking and bitterly cold weather can have fatal or near fatal consequences as witnessed by two recent incidents on Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac. Twenty-seven-year-old Lindsey Klima of Fond du Lac died after walking away from an ice shanty on the Lake early New Year’s morning. She was found dead on shore near Garden Drive. The County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled she died of exposure. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says they believe she had been drinking and pending toxicology tests will tell them how much if any. Forty-two-year-old Christopher Freund of Fond du Lac was rescued from the Lake early Sunday morning after he had been out drinking. He left a bar on Winnebago Drive and walked out on the Lake and was headed toward Lakeside Park. Waldschmidt says Freund lost consciousness after deputies got to him and rescuers were able to get him to shore and a waiting ambulance to take him to St. Agnes Hospital.
