Driver That Fled Waupun Police Makes Court Appearance

We reported earlier this week of a police chase
that occurred in Waupun Sunday evening(December 29th). Now the
driver of the vehicle that led police on the chase has made his initial court appearance.
Samuel Vasquez of West Allis,
is facing a felony count of Fleeing as well as several misdemeanor drug
charges.

Vasquez was spotted Sunday evening by a Waupun officer who noticed the
vehicle had a busted headlamp.  When the
officer
approached the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was exiting the
vehicle. When asked to search the car, Vasquez allegedly said he could not give
permission because it was not his. As the officer attempted to open the driver
side door Vasquez reportedly sped off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit that
lasted just under a mile ensued, wtih Vasquez allegedly clocked going over
85-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone.

Once Waupun police were able to
stop the vehicle, their search of the car turned up drug paraphernalia. If
convicted, the 25-year-old could face five years behind bars. A signature bond
was set at
$5,000 with another court date set for February.
