Early Morning Shooting in Dispute Over Cigarette

A shooting at a home near the Fond du Lac County Courthouse last week apparently followed a dispute over a cigarette. 56-year old Elizabeth Hawkey is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment with the use of a dangerous weapon, pointing a firearm at a person, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, battery, and disorderly conduct.  Around 4:00am Wednesday morning, officers responded to a home on Western Avenue – where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg. She allegedly threatened to shoot the man after he reached to take one of her cigarettes. The man was able to pull the gun and a cell phone from Hawkey and make it outside, where he called police. He suffered non-life threatening injuries. She is set to return to court on Thursday.
