Election Cycle Kicks Off

08-Dec-2017

Another round of elections kicked off when candidates were allowed to take out nomination papers in the past week. In Fond du Lac County all 25 County supervisors will be up for election in April. There are also town, village, city and school board elections. The Town of Taycheedah will have a town supervisor election, all nine villages will have elections, and the cities of Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupun will have council elections. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says there will be a referendum for Town of Springvale voters on the ballot in April. It will ask voters to allow the Town Board to appoint a town clerk rather than having the position elected. Also in April there’s a statewide referendum that asks voters whether the state treasurer’s office should be eliminated. Freiberg is expecting a primary election in February because incumbent State Supreme Court Justice Michael Gabelman isn’t running for reelection and there will be multiple candidates for the seat on the bench.

City Of FDL Elected Offices

There will be some familiar names on the ballot in the City of Fond du Lac next spring. Four seats will be available on the City Council. Incumbents Karyn Merkel, Kay Miller and Derek TerBeest are up for reelection. Councilwoman Lee Ann Lorrigan has reached a term limit.  Those seats on the Council are for two year terms. Incumbent School Board members Susan Jones and Linda Uselmann are also up for reelection for three year terms. Candidates for those offices have until January 2nd to return their nomination papers.
