Envision Greater FDL Names Powell VP Of Economic Development

Envision Greater Fond du Lac has named Scott Powell as Vice President of Economic Development. The announcement was made by Envision CEO and President Cecelia Harry on KFIZ Wednesday morning. Powell will start in that role on March 5th. He is currently the Economic Development Program Manager for the City of Tempe, Arizona. Harry says Powell has worked in larger markets like Tempe all the way down to smaller communities of a few thousand people with Main Street redevelopment projects and similar things. She says, “So he has really seen it all from working with entrepreneurs and small business to reach large complex deals in larger markets. He’s also spent time in D.C. and in Michigan practicing economic development.” She says Powell will be their lead economic developer and will oversee a strategic plan for a five-year economic development plan. She says, “We needed somebody to come in full time and really start chipping away at the priorities and needs of the community from an economic development strategic perspective.” While at Tempe, Powell led the city through projects that yielded over 5,000 high paying jobs and capital investment of $150 million. Powell is originally from Michigan.

Envision Greater Fond du Lac has named M. Scott Powell as Vice President of Economic Development. Powell will begin his duties on March 5.

As the Vice President of Economic Development, Mr. Powell will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the organization’s economic development efforts and defining a county-wide strategic vision for economic development. Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s economic development programming includes a business retention and expansion program, client services for attraction and expansion projects, marketing the Greater Fond du Lac area to targeted industries, workforce and talent development and supporting the entrepreneurial community through the IGNITE! Business Success network.

Mr. Powell has over a dozen years of economic development experience working around the country and currently serves as the Economic Development Program Manager for the City of Tempe, Arizona. Projects under his leadership have yielded over 5,000 high paying jobs and capital investment of $150 million.

Mr. Powell received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Arizona State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Western Michigan University. In addition, he’s been recognized as a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council.
