Evers Announces Burrell as New State Patrol Superintendent

Governor Tony Evers announced Friday that Major Anthony
Burrell will be the new Superintendent of the Wisconsin State Patrol. Burrell’s
nearly 30-year law enforcement career began as a trooper in St. Croix County,
and eventually led to becoming Captain of the 11-county Northeast Region of the
State Patrol, which is based in Fond du Lac. Burrell was awarded the Medal of
Valor – the State Patrol’s highest honor for bravery – following the shooting
death of Trooper Trevor Casper in March of 2015. In December 2016, Burrell was
promoted to Major and Deputy Director of the State Patrol’s Bureau of Field
Operations, which oversees 385 law enforcement personnel and an annual budget
of $45 million.

“Major Anthony Burrell has a
long and decorated history of public service,” Governor Evers said. “Under his
leadership, the Wisconsin State Patrol will continue to prioritize the safety
of Wisconsinites and help build stronger communities.”
Burrell’s first
day on the job is Sunday. He replaces former superintendent J.D. Lind, who
retired last fall.
