Governor Tony Evers’ pick to head the state Department of
Transportation, Craig Thompson, laid out his vision for members of the state
Senate’s transportation committee Wednesday. “I would view how well we’re doing
at the department, really not by what initiatives we can talk about or
different programs and policies, but by whether people notice that the
conditions are improving. That their transportation system is getting better,
and that metrics back up that we are improving that situation,” Thompson said. Thompson,
whose appointment must be approved by the full Senate, says another 360 to 400
million dollars is needed every two years, just to maintain current conditions
and adds that more revenue will need to be found. Governor Evers is expected to
act on recommendations put forward by a task force he’s appointed which
includes Thompson.
