FDL City Council Approves Chicken Ordinance
28-Oct-2015

The Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night unanimously
passed an amendment to a City ordinance that will allow people to keep chickens.
It started out with a request from someone to raise 4 to 6 chickens. Councilman
Gary Miller wanted an ordinance that was as well crafted as another the Council
passed that allows honey bee keeping in the City. He said he didn't care what
other cities comparable to the size of Fond du Lac were allowing. City Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan said she had
gotten calls from people hoping the ordinance would pass. She says she got a
call from a teacher, firefighter, people who gathered signatures on a petition
supporting the ordinance change and she says they saw as a chance to hatch
chickens and do a family project. The Council did approve one amendment
before adopting the change to the ordinance.

They will work to approve chickens in the city but will not take up the issue of renaming the johnson street bridge to the fallen heroes bridge. That would honor our fallen police and military residents. The council are s bunch of lazy uncaring bums.

I bet peoples minds will change as soon as the roosters start roostering lol...
I grew up in the country and can EASILY hear my neighbor's ½mile away chickens in the morning. Multiply that by a few thousand birds and now you have a nuisance

What was the amendment? If it was to allow Roosters then I throw the challenge flag as myself and others did not oppose chickens being allowed but DEFINITELY OPPOSE ROOSTERS as those are the noisemakers in the crowd

How cowardly to post an anonymous comment that our City Council is lazy. The issue of renaming the Johnson Street bridge has never been brought to our attention or put on our agenda. We have a very hard working, professional group of individuals on our City Council that sit through hours of weekly meetings in addition to their regular full-time job. Never do they ignore subjects, rather they gather information and make informed decisions. Get your facts straight and be thankful that we have dedicated folks that take the time out of their personal lives to do the job!

Well said Ms Lorrigan. I think the City Council has definitely improved over the last few years at addressing citizen concerns. Thank you and the rest of the council for your dedication to our city. Although I am now a township resident I lived in the city for many years and I am in the city daily.

Citizens, attend the meetings, know the agenda and at the end of the agenda the open agenda begins, that's a good starting point to re-name a bridge or to oppose roosters. If duty is to be honored, do your own duty.
I believe the City and the County Governments are both working individually and collectively to keep us safe and improve our daily living.
Just 1 opinion...
