FDL City Council Denies Zoning Request

The Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night denied a request for a change in zoning for 3.7 acres of the Scenic Ridge Condominium land that was undeveloped. Lenz Truck Center was hoping to use the property for a parking lot for vehicle storage and to put up a maintenance building. The land currently has unfinished buildings on it. David Howell who owns one of the 12 units in the finished portion of property told the Council he wouldn’t have bought his condominium if he knew what might go up on the adjacent property. He says they have a beautiful view and a parking lot with huge flood lights would be a distraction. Other condo owners talked about how it would affect their quality of life. The Council denied the request by a 5 to 1 vote with Councilman Derek TerBeest voting in favor. The Council also approved allowing for submission of an application for a $250,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The Community Development Grant would aid the redevelopment of the Hotel Retlaw, which Community Development Director Dyann Benson says is an appropriate use for the grant. She says the redevelopment and reinvestment in the Hotel Retlaw has some significant impacts on the downtown and is a project everyone is excited about.
