FDL City Council Discusses Parking Restrictions On North Peters

The Fond du Lac City Council decided against
totally restricting parking for northbound traffic on North Peters from Johnson
to Scott Street. Before the Council voted Wednesday night they heard from Louise
Gudex of the City’s Housing Authoritity who told them they needed to keep four
parking spots for housing units north of Security Drive because that is the only
option for those renters. She says the driveways only have room for one car and
they have a difficult time getting out because of the traffic.
She says they are also concerned about the safety
of children living in those apartments. She says they have 22 children living
in those units and if the parking were to be taken away people would be parking
on the lawns in front of those units.
City Councilman Greg Giles says signs should be put
in informing motorists unfamiliar with the street that it would narrow to one
lane towards the northern end with the parking in place. He says people are always
racing to get in front of you when the road narrows.
City Engineer Paul Devries says the
appropriate signs will be put in with parking not allowed in the northbound
lanes of North Peters from Johnson to the area just north of Security Drive.
