FDL City Council Seat Will Be Filled By Appointment

Anyone interested in filling the remaining term of Fond du Lac City Councilman Jim Sabel (pictured) will have to apply for the seat, be interviewed by the Council and be appointed to the Council. That’s the route the Council chose last night to fill the vacancy created by Sabel’s resignation due to ongoing health concerns. Applications will be taken through Friday, May 10th and the Council will interview candidates for the seat the following week. Council President Sam Meyer believes they will be able to appoint someone before the end of May. Meyer says even with the short time frame for filling the seat there’s already been interest in it. The term for the seat runs until April 15th of next year. Anyone interested in applying for the seat should contact City Clerk Sue Strands at the City-County Government Center or by calling 322-3430.

Apparently Council President Sam Meyer has forgotten this is a democracy where we vote and elect our representatives. Instead they are appointing their best friends like this is a "good old boys club" and can keep running rough-shod over us with unjustified "fees" and unwanted projects like roundabouts in town. When will we understand that we can not afford this type of politics and start ELECTING aldermen and a mayor???

A special election would cost $15,000. You willing to pay that?

Anyone is welcome and encouraged to apply. Here's the link for the application:

I felt a special election was too costly and a waste of taxpayer money ($12K +)...AND the seat will be up for re-election in the regular Spring Election in 11 months. This seemed the most prudent approach. Call me if questions, I'm in the book.
