FDL City Council Votes Against Bicycling On Sidewalk Changes

The Fond du Lac City Council unanimously voted last night to keep the City’s bicycle ordinance as is. Prior to their vote they heard from longtime resident Gordy Schingen who didn’t believe changing the ordinance to allow bicycle use in the downtown would benefit business owners. He says he walks his two dogs when he can, but bicycle traffic on City sidewalks can be an issue. Councilman Gary Miller thanked City staff for doing surveys and giving the Council more time to reach its decision. Between a Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership survey, and online and paper surveys offered by the City there were about 370 responses. However Council members felt there wasn’t enough of a demand to change the ordinance to allow the use of bicycles on all City sidewalks.
