FDL County Board Approves Two Economic Development Loans

The Fond du Lac County Board Tuesday night approved economic development agreements and loans totaling up to $5 million to two local companies. A $4 million loan to Mid-States Aluminum Corporation will help them purchase equipment that will make them more competitive. Mid-States Engineering Team Leader Mike Wahl says for every 100 pounds of raw material they take in they produce about 69 pounds of product. With the expansion they will be able to produce 83 pounds allowing them to break into new markets. The $20 million expansion will add 36 employees over the next four years and retain 19 others. The board also approved a $1 million loan to C.D. Smith Construction, which will build a new 50,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in the business park off Camelot Drive in Fond du Lac. That will allow C.D. Smith to add 30 new staff members over the next 5 years. It is an $11 million project. County Executive Al Buechel says both projects are good for the County.
