FDL County Board Hears Presentation On Proposed County Highway Garage

Fond du Lac County supervisors got a presentation last night on what will eventually become the most expensive project in the County’s history. In a few months supervisors will be asked to approve the purchase of a property on South Hickory Street for a new County highway garage in Fond du Lac. Realtor Troy Rademann told the board that they are getting a 27 percent discount on the property, which makes the purchase a good one for land near the Highway 151 bypass. County Executive Al Buechel says the point of the presentation was to give supervisors enough information to make a good decision when they are asked to approve the land purchase. In addition the property will house the sheriff’s impound yard, cold storage, a salt storage buildings and the Parks Department. The projected cost is $22 million, but Buechel says there are ways to reduce the cost. He says it won’t all be built at once and there are options to keep the price down. There’s no firm timeline for construction, but Buechel says they are considering 2020 or 2021. The UW-Fond du Lac campus upgrade in 1999 was the County’s most expensive project at $13 million.
