FDL County Deputy Cleared Of Any Wrongdoing In Campbellsport Mans Death

An investigation into an 18-year-old Campbellsport man’s suicide has cleared a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy of any wrongdoing. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has determined the man’s death last March 24th was not caused by the actions of the Deputy James Pfeiffer.  Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney reportedly reviewed reports from the investigation and found Deputy Pfeiffer’s actions were justified under self-defense and defense of others.  No charges will be filed.  According to a Washington County Sheriff press release the man was posting suicidal comments on social media and texting acquaintances. Deputies tried to pull him over on Town Hall Road in the Town of Auburn. He continued driving at low speeds, but eventually turned around and drove at deputies hitting a squad car.  The teen went off the road and struck a tree. He then shot himself with a handgun. Deputies did not fire any weapons. They were able to get the man out of the car and started life saving efforts. He died later at an area hospital.
