FDL County Executive on County Fair

It’s day two of five of this year’s Fond du Lac County Fair. Once again, admission to the fair is completely free – with just a five dollar per carload charge if you choose to park on the grounds. Just a few years after the fair was forced to borrow money from the county to pay their bills, Fond du Lac County Executive Allen Buechel says the fair seems to have found a plan that works to bring people, and money in. “They were really struggling, but they worked hard to come up with the answer,” Buechel said. “After experiencing what we did last year, I think they found the formula – and this is going to be what its going to take to bring the people in and to get the kind of numbers you need to bring the bottom line to a positive instead of a negative.” The Agricultural Society – also known as the County Fair – was given a $50,000 no-interest loan in 2012, and was given an extension in 2014 to pay off the loan by the end of 2016.

Highlights at the fair today include the Market Livestock Auction in the Cow Palace and Professional Bull Riding and Barrel Racing on the Grandstand. Find a full schedule of events here.
