FDL County Residents Encouraged To Get Rid Of Old Pills

Local law enforcement agencies are asking residents to zip through their medicine cabinets and zip down to their local drug drop box and empty pill bottles into a zip-lock bag and deposit the drugs for disposal on or before September 30, 2015.

Fond du Lac County residents are fortunate to have a way to properly dispose of medications.  Fond du Lac County has six drug drop boxes, three alone in this area.  They are located at the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, 126 N. Main Street, North Fond du Lac Police Department, 16 Garfield Street and Village of Oakfield Police Department/Village Office, 130 Main Street.  It is available to all county residents to bring their old, expired or no longer needed prescription medications for disposal year round.  Since opening the first drug drop box in the State of Wisconsin at the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, more than 10 million pills have been collected.

“A drug drop off program like this helps dispose of drugs that are no longer needed in a safe way, preventing accidental overuse or abuse. This is a great convenience for the people of Fond du Lac County as they don’t have to wait for a yearly collection to drop off their medications,” Village of North Fond du Lac Police Chief and Vice Chair of Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac Darren Pautsch stated.

“Each of us can make a difference by taking responsibility for monitoring our medicine cabinets, taking medication as prescribed and using the Drug Drop box for safe disposal,” commented Officer Steve Olson, Drug Free Communities Task Force member.

“This program is a benefit to all residents of Oakfield, North Fond du Lac and Fond du Lac,” states Oakfield Chief of Police, Renee Schuster, “check the Drug Free Communities website or visit any community’s website for hours of operation.”
