FDL County Sheriff’s Captain Running For Sheriff

On Friday, April 6th, Ryan F. Waldschmidt announced his candidacy for Fond du Lac County Sheriff.

Waldschmidt’s law enforcement career began in 1998 when he was hired as a part-time deputy reserve with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and as a patrol officer with the Brandon-Fairwater Police Department. Since that time Ryan has advanced within the Sheriff’s Office to hold the positions of correctional deputy, patrol deputy, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, juvenile detention superintendent, assistant jail administrator, and in 2016 promoted to his current rank of captain of operations. Ryan’s present duties include supervision of the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Civil Process, Deputy Reserve, Dive Team, SWAT Team, Boat Patrol & Water Rescue, Crash Reconstruction Team, and all other specialized units.

Waldschmidt stated, “I have a desire to use the skills developed over a life-long career of public service to confront the new challenges our community faces, and I believe I have the leadership, experience, and trust necessary to successfully lead the Sheriff’s Office into the future. I view the role of Sheriff as being larger than just one person. Rather, it is the cumulative effort of over 150 deputies who work hard to protect our community every day of the year. I am excited for the opportunity to lead these deputies and serve as your next Sheriff. I look forward to the campaign, meeting the community, sharing my vision for the future of the Sheriff’s Office, and I hope to earn your vote on August 14th.”

Waldschmidt was born and raised in Fond du Lac and resides in the Town of Oakfield with his wife Sara. Ryan volunteers with Sheriff’s Benevolent Association, Drug Free Communities, Shop with a Cop, United Way, Special Olympics, serves on the Town of Oakfield Planning Commission, attends Holy Family Parish, and is a former member of the Holy Family Parish Council. Other service includes Habitat for Humanity, Old Glory Honor Flight Guardian, and Relay for Life.
